The Breach

"The Breach" has been an entertaining personal project for me, mainly because I love dinosaurs and projects with cool creatures in them. I started this initially as a study on large scale simulations, what makes a sim feel massive/colossal compared to its surroundings and I thought I'll go with FLIP for this test study because FLIP sims can't go wrong :D

When brainstorming for ideas, having something leap out of the ocean was the obvious choice but I wanted to make things interesting. The nerdy dino-geek inside me decided to go with a prehistoric scene; a massive Mosasaurus as the hero creature and for the prey, a giant Pterosaur (Quetzalcoatlus)! After awhile working on the study and the shots, I realized that part of showing the scale of things is to compare them with the surrounding, so I decided to have a flock of smaller pterosaurs flying across near to the ocean surface.

The rigs for the creatures were purchased from CGTrader. Apart from that, from shot layout & camera, all the way through animation to FX & simulations, to lighting and rendering (Karma) and finally to compositing and color-grading, I'm proud to say I made it work all by myself with some feedback from colleagues :) To make it a finish project, sound design was paramount, so I decided to collaborate with talented sound designer, Jackson George (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jackson-george-489609218/)), who made it sound so epic like an actual scene from the Jurassic Franchise!

Hope to work on more similar shots with different type of FX & Simulations in the future.
